The Edo State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Chief Bisi Idaomi Esq., has been honoured by the Edo State Directorate of Education Quality and Accountability (DEQA) in recognition of her exceptional leadership and unwavering dedication to advancing the status of women in the State.
The award was presented by the Director-General of DEQA, Dr. Amen Ogbemudia, during a ceremony held in Benin City.
The recognition comes at a time when women across Nigeria and Africa continue to push for greater representation in governance, economic empowerment, and protection from social injustices such as gender-based violence and discrimination. Chief Idaomi’s leadership reflects the growing importance of women in policy-making roles and their impact on shaping inclusive development agendas.
Receiving the award, Chief Idaomi expressed gratitude to the State Government, particularly the Edo State Governor, Sen. Monday Okpebholo, whom she described as a source of inspiration and purposeful leadership. She also commended Dr. Ogbemudia for her simplicity, honesty, and patience, stressing that the award would further reinforce her passion to excel in her duties.
In her remarks, Dr. Ogbemudia praised Chief Idaomi’s tireless advocacy and compassion, noting that her work had opened doors of opportunity, uplifted countless lives, and paved the way for a more inclusive society.
This recognition underscores the critical role of women leaders in building resilient communities and fostering social development. In a country where gender inequality remains a barrier to progress, the recognition of leaders like Chief Idaomi sends a strong message about the need for more inclusive governance.
For Edo State, the award also reflects the government’s commitment to empowering women as agents of change, aligning with broader African and global calls for gender equality as outlined in the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Chief Idaomi’s recognition is more than a personal achievement—it is a symbol of progress for Edo State and Nigeria at large. Her work demonstrates how women in leadership can drive transformation, inspire hope, and create lasting social impact.
Sustaining such efforts requires continued political support, stronger institutions, and deliberate investments in women’s empowerment, ensuring that more women can rise into leadership and continue shaping the future of communities across Nigeria and Africa.
