The Ogun State Government has announced that the free entry initiative to the newly renovated Olumo Rock Tourist Complex will end on Saturday, August 23, 2025.
The initiative, introduced by His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, aimed to allow residents and visitors to rediscover and appreciate the cultural and historical significance of Olumo Rock following its extensive renovation.
Since the launch of the free entry scheme, the tourist site has experienced an overwhelming turnout, attracting thousands of visitors from across the state and beyond. The government described the response as unprecedented, reflecting the success of efforts to reposition Olumo Rock as a world-class tourist destination.
However, the influx of visitors raised concerns about overcrowding and public safety. On several occasions, the volume of the crowd posed potential risks that could have led to stampedes, which were prevented through the swift intervention of security agencies and on-site personnel.
In response, the Ogun State Government confirmed that normal access procedures will resume after August 23, ensuring the safety and security of all visitors.
The free entry initiative not only allowed residents to enjoy recreational and educational experiences at Olumo Rock but also boosted tourism awareness in Ogun State. The event has highlighted the importance of balancing public access with safety measures in managing major tourist sites.
Tourism experts say such initiatives can enhance local economies, foster cultural pride, and attract international visitors, but they must be paired with adequate security, crowd management, and infrastructure planning to prevent accidents and ensure a positive visitor experience.
While the free entry period concludes, the Ogun State Government remains committed to promoting Olumo Rock as a safe, enjoyable, and world-class destination. Visitors are encouraged to plan their trips accordingly and continue to engage with the cultural heritage site under regular access procedures, ensuring both enjoyment and safety.
