Since the beginning of 2025, the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) has intensified its grassroots advocacy efforts, reaching 18 Community Development Councils (CDCs) and 367 Community Development Associations (CDAs) across the state. This far-reaching intervention was achieved through strategic collaboration with the Community Development Advisory Council (CDAC), a vital platform that connects directly with residents at the community level.
As part of activities marking the Domestic and Sexual Violence Awareness Month, the Agency on Wednesday deepened this collaboration by “Turning the CDACs Purple.” DSVA officials joined one of the council’s meetings, where leaders were recognized for their commitment to combating sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV).
Executive Secretary of DSVA, Mrs. Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, commended the CDAC’s dedication to spreading awareness of SGBV prevention and response across all corners of Lagos. In recognition of their role, 57 CDAC leaders were decorated with purple lapel pins, symbolizing their ambassadorial responsibility to amplify DSVA’s message, strengthen community response, and serve as change agents in their localities.
This engagement reaffirms DSVA’s commitment to partnering with grassroots structures. By working hand-in-hand with trusted community leaders, the Agency continues to foster prevention, protection, and accountability in tackling domestic and sexual violence.
According to DSVA, the ongoing community-driven advocacy has directly sensitized 851,000 residents and indirectly influenced 1,702,000 individuals across the state. These figures underscore the power of grassroots mobilization in shaping safer communities and reaffirm the collective responsibility of all Lagosians in building a violence-free society.
