Bauchi State has moved to bolster religious harmony and community celebration ahead of Maulid al-Nabi by distributing food items and cattle to key Islamic institutions and community leaders.
The Ministry of Religious Affairs presented five bags of rice and a cow to each beneficiary, which included religious centres such as Gidan Barebari and Gidan Sheikh Aminu Bakin Kura, as well as the office of the First Lady of Bauchi State, Hajiya Aisha Bala Abdulkadir Muhammad. The items were handed over on behalf of the Commissioner for Religious Affairs by Muhammad Mai Sule Zurami, Senior Special Adviser on Religious Affairs to the Governor, alongside Garba Muhammad, Special Assistant on Community Relations.
Speaking at the brief handover, Muhammad Mai Sule Zurami said the gesture is intended to support communities hosting Maulid activities and to reinforce the government’s commitment to religious inclusion. He described the distribution as part of the state’s ongoing effort to ensure that observances are celebrated “in peace and dignity,” and to recognise the role of religious centres in spiritual education and social cohesion.
At Government House, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Alhaji Lawal A. Muhammad, reiterated that the distribution is an annual tradition designed to strengthen ties between government and faith communities across the state. A representative of the First Lady thanked the ministry and pledged that the items would help organisers host meaningful Maulid programmes that bring families and neighbourhoods together.
Maulid al-Nabi, the observance of the birth of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), is marked across Nigeria with lectures, prayers and acts of charity. In northern states such as Bauchi the festival carries strong cultural as well as spiritual significance, often drawing large community gatherings to mosques and educational centres.
Officials said the support forms part of broader state efforts to preserve cultural heritage, promote social responsibility and ensure communities have the resources to observe religious festivals without undue hardship.
