Bayelsa Youths Graduate from Hands-On Construction Skills Training

One hundred youths from Bayelsa State have successfully completed a building construction-based skills acquisition programme at the ongoing 9-storey Civil Servant Secretariat building site in Ovom, Yenagoa.

The practical, on-the-site training was organized by MEGASTAR Construction Company and facilitated by the State Ministry of Youth Development and the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure. Participants gained hands-on experience in masonry, carpentry, scaffolding, and iron bending/steel fixing, immersing them directly in real construction processes.

Some of the graduates have already been retained by MEGASTAR for ongoing work on the project, while others are expected to be considered for future construction initiatives. Representatives from MEGASTAR and the Industrial Training Fund (ITF) lauded the trainees for their dedication and expressed confidence that the skills acquired will create opportunities and benefit their communities.

In his remarks, Commissioner for Youth Development, Mr. Alfred Kemepado, congratulated the graduates and described the programme as a demonstration of the government’s vision to develop a skilled generation of Bayelsans capable of driving local development. He emphasized that the initiative aims to bridge critical gaps in the state’s construction sector, reduce capital flight, and ensure that major projects are executed by homegrown talent rather than external contractors.

This initiative underscores Bayelsa State’s commitment to youth empowerment, skills development, and sustainable economic growth.

This is a developing story. More updates will follow as details emerge.
