The Lagos State Government has reiterated its commitment to grassroots development with the official flag-off of a 200-metre stone-paved road on Sanni Street, Ifelodun Local Council Development Area (LCDA). The project was inaugurated by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Rural Development, Dr. Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje, who spoke on behalf of the State Government.

Describing the initiative as “more than a road construction – it is a new chapter in the story of development for the Ifelodun community,” Dr. Agbaje highlighted the administration of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu’s focus on inner roads that improve connectivity, reduce travel time, and enhance the flow of people and goods across Lagos. He emphasized that the project reflects the government’s commitment to equitable development across all 57 Local Government Areas and LCDAs in the State.

“This road may appear modest in length, but its impact will be enormous. For the people of Sanni Street, it will ease daily stress, improve accessibility, and enlarge economic opportunities. Rural infrastructure remains a cardinal focus of Mr. Governor’s administration,” Dr. Agbaje stated.

The 200-metre road is expected to be completed within six months and will feature a stone-paved carriageway, covered drainage that doubles as pedestrian walkways, and solar-powered streetlights to enhance safety and security. Engineer Seun Orekomaya, representing JIBC Engineering Nigeria Limited, the construction company, assured that local artisans and skilled workers from the area would be engaged to boost economic empowerment during the construction period.

Honourable Lukman Olumo, Member of the Lagos State House of Assembly representing Ajeromi-Ifelodun Constituency I, praised the administration for delivering tangible projects to the grassroots. He also committed to advocating for further developmental projects to benefit his constituents.

Beyond infrastructure, the flag-off event also featured a youth empowerment initiative. Cash grants were awarded to youths who completed a summer training program facilitated by Hon. Olumo, with Dr. Agbaje personally handing over the grants. “While infrastructure provides the physical framework for development, empowering young people provides the human capital required to sustain progress,” he noted.

The ceremony drew political leaders, community stakeholders, and residents in large numbers. Notable attendees included the APC Chairman of Ifelodun LCDA, Honourable Babatunde Aderemi Olalekan; former Executive Secretary, Honourable Adigun Wahab; and CDC Chairman, Alhaji Idowu Bolaji Jimoh.

With this flag-off, Governor Sanwo-Olu’s administration continues to demonstrate its commitment to delivering visible, impactful development projects that improve the daily lives of Lagos residents.
