Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY) have recorded significant breakthroughs in the fight against terrorism and banditry during recent operations across Zamfara and Sokoto States. Between September 8 and 10, 2025, troops intercepted over ₦23 million in ransom payments, recovered more than 160 rustled livestock, and neutralized multiple terrorists during coordinated actions in Shinkafi, Gusau, Bukkuyum, and Tureta Local Government Areas.
The operation commenced along the Shinkafi–Katuru–Galadi–Tubali axis, where troops of 1 Brigade Forward Operating Base Shinkafi and the Mobile Strike Team cleared terrorist hideouts in forested areas of Galadi and Tubali, with several bandits fleeing with gunshot wounds. Stop-and-search operations at Katuru Bridge along Shinkafi–Katuru–Isa Road led to the interception of three suspects carrying ₦8.7 million, and later, two more suspects were intercepted in a black Toyota Corolla with ₦15 million. Preliminary investigations revealed that the monies were ransoms for locals abducted along the Nigeria–Niger border by terrorists hiding in the Shinkafi area. All suspects and exhibits have been handed over to appropriate agencies for further investigation.
In parallel operations in Anka and Tureta LGAs under Sector 2 OPFY, troops ambushed terrorists moving rustled livestock from Talata Mafara and Tureta to forest enclaves at Bagega and Furagirke. The bandits fled with gunshot wounds, abandoning eight kidnapped victims and 21 sheep in Anka, while 143 sheep were recovered in Tureta. The rescued victims were reunited with their families, and the recovered livestock were handed over to the Local Government Chairmen of Bakura and Tureta for further action.
In Gusau LGA, troops of 1 Brigade Forward Operating Base Lilo came under heavy terrorist fire while patrolling along Lilo–Kofi Road. Following a fierce engagement, six terrorists were neutralized, forcing the rest to flee in disarray. Tragically, three soldiers paid the supreme price, while two critically wounded soldiers later succumbed to their injuries.
Captain David Adewusi, Media Information Officer of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, confirmed the successes, emphasizing that the operation would continue until terrorism and banditry are eradicated. He urged the public to support the security forces by providing timely and credible information to restore peace across the North West and parts of the North Central regions.
