Ogidi, Anambra State – The Anambra State Police Command swiftly intervened following a violent clash between suspected cultists at a burial ceremony in Ezi Village, Ogidi, Idemili North LGA, late on 11th September 2025. The attack resulted in the deaths of four individuals, while fifteen others sustained serious injuries.
Police operatives from Ogidi Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer, promptly mobilized to the scene, restored order, and evacuated the injured to nearby hospitals for urgent medical care. During the operation, 16 expended cartridges were recovered as evidence.
The Anambra State Police have launched a discreet investigation to identify and apprehend the perpetrators, with preliminary findings indicating the incident stemmed from clashes between rival cult groups.
Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc MNIPS PhD, condemned the attack, reassuring residents of the Command’s commitment to eliminating cult-related violence and other criminal activities in the state.
The Command urged the public to remain calm, stay vigilant, and report any suspicious movements or individuals to the nearest police formation. Updates on the investigation and security measures will be communicated in due course.
