The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has called on women nationwide to take an active role in combating economic and financial crimes, emphasizing their pivotal influence in shaping societal values and promoting integrity. The appeal was made during the “You Against Crime Festival” organized by You Against Crime International (YACI) on Thursday, September 11, 2025, in Abuja.

Represented by the Head of the EFCC’s Enlightenment and Reorientation Unit, Assistant Commander Aisha Muhammed, Olukoyede stressed that mothers and women are essential partners in the fight against corruption and cybercrime. He noted that early education and strong parental guidance are crucial to instilling integrity from a young age. The Commission has established Integrity Clubs in primary and secondary schools, as well as Zero Tolerance Clubs in universities and other tertiary institutions, to foster a culture of accountability among youths.

“Mothers and women play crucial roles in everything that we do, and they can do the same in the fight against corruption and cybercrime. Parenting is the most important part of our culture. Parents should ask questions, know their children’s friends, and keep an eye on them. Don’t leave your children to society,” Olukoyede said.

Tayo Florunsho, president and organizer of the festival, highlighted the event’s objective to develop collaborative solutions to the array of crimes affecting society. He emphasized the importance of collective action, stating, “We are here to dialogue on solutions, not just to complain. Students, youths, and all stakeholders must contribute to the fight against corruption and financial crimes.”

Adebayo Benjamin Laniyi, Mandate Secretary for Women Affairs, Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), echoed the call for unified efforts, stressing that coordinated action is vital for meaningful progress in tackling financial crimes and fostering a culture of accountability.
