The newly appointed Chairman of the State Information Technology Agency (SITA), Hon. Tomide Akinribido, paid a working visit to Hon. Idowu Ajanaku, Commissioner for Information and Orientation, along with the ministry’s management staff, to strengthen collaboration in advancing digital governance in Ondo State.
Hon. Ajanaku, while congratulating Akinribido on his appointment, described his assumption of office as “timely and strategic”, noting that the fast-evolving media landscape requires closer synergy between the ministry and SITA. He emphasized the ministry’s expectation of professional support in areas such as technology-driven information management and digital communication.
“We must work hand in glove to achieve a common goal in today’s media world. Our priority is to deepen the state’s social media presence so that government policies and activities are accessible to all,” Ajanaku said.
In response, Hon. Akinribido commended the commissioner for his achievements, describing him as “the number one journalist in Ondo State whose results are already visible.” He revealed that SITA is preparing, pending the governor’s approval, for the procurement of IT tools for Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), prioritizing the Ministry of Information to strengthen its online media presence and drive digital transformation.
Akinribido announced new initiatives, including the creation of an official and verified X (formerly Twitter) account for the Ondo State Government, @OndoStateOnline, to enhance online engagement. He further disclosed that political office holders and top government functionaries will now have access to personalized official email accounts to improve governance efficiency.
The SITA boss also revealed plans for the agency’s maiden Artificial Intelligence Adoption Summit in Ondo State, approved by Governor Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, in collaboration with global tech giants such as Amazon, Data Science, the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), and the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC). The ministry will have five slots at the upcoming summit, with the date to be announced soon.
The visit highlighted a renewed commitment by both the Ministry of Information and SITA to harness technology for effective governance, improved information dissemination, and deeper citizen engagement.
