
The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Olorunda LCDA Chapter, on Saturday, September 20, 2025, hosted this year’s International Youth Day (IYD) Celebration at the Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu Multipurpose Hall, Olorunda LCDA Secretariat, Iworo, in the Badagry area of Lagos State.
The event brought together youths, community leaders, and stakeholders to promote unity, accountability, and skill development among young people.
Representing the Lagos State Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mr. Mobolaji Ogunlende, Mr. Ashade Abdusalam Abiodun highlighted government initiatives aimed at youth empowerment. He pointed to programs such as the IBILE Youth Academy, Lagos State Youth Parliament, and various skill acquisition schemes designed to benefit grassroots youths. He noted that the ministry recently commemorated International Youth Day by awarding grants to voluntary youth organizations, reaffirming government’s commitment to empowering young people.
In his goodwill message, Comrade Taiwo Ismail Babatunde, Youth Coordinator of Iba LCDA, commended the Olorunda chapter for successfully bringing young people together. He described the celebration as “a wonderful and encouraging platform,” adding that today’s youths are playing more active roles in community development than ever before.
Addressing participants, Comrade David Aladeotan urged youths to embrace personal accountability as a foundation for leadership, stressing that “until you challenge yourself and hold yourself accountable, you cannot demand accountability from others.”
On his part, the Olorunda NYCN Coordinator, Comrade Sodiq Abimbola, advised young people to steer clear of drugs and remain focused on the right path despite present challenges. He emphasized that discipline and resilience are key to building a meaningful future.
