Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, is in New York for the 2025 United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), where he is engaging in high-level discussions on global and regional development.

On Tuesday evening, at the invitation of Ghana’s President, John Mahama, Governor Diri attended a special programme tagged “Ghana Reset.” The event brought together global figures including the Prime Minister of Barbados, Mia Mottley, Nigeria’s former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, former British Prime Minister, Gordon Brown, and the Director-General of the World Trade Organisation, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.

Governor Diri is also billed to deliver a keynote address on Thursday at the High-Level Roundtable on the Gulf of Guinea. Speaking ahead of the event, he emphasized its significance to Bayelsa’s development agenda.

“This is an event that is significant to Bayelsa State’s growth and economic advancement, as our state, which borders the Atlantic Ocean on three flanks, makes deliberate inroads into tapping the enormous resources in our maritime domain,” he stated.
