National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members in Bayelsa State have been advised to embrace diligence, focus, and long-term commitment in their pursuit of professional and career success.
The charge was given by the Bayelsa State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Biriyai Dambo, SAN, during an engagement with Corps members of the Legal Aid Community Development Service (CDS) Group at the Ministry of Justice Conference Hall in Yenagoa.
Mr. Dambo stressed the importance of building a strong foundation for lasting career achievements, cautioning Corps members against prioritizing immediate material or financial benefits over sustainable growth. “Material and financial gains will follow if you focus on building a strong foundation for your career,” he admonished, warning against shortcuts that could derail their future.
In a separate session, the Head of the Gender-Based Violence and Child’s Rights Unit, Mrs. Pere Amanda Egbuson, delivered a presentation on the devastating impact of gender violence on society. She urged victims to speak out and report cases, while calling on non-victims to remain vigilant and alert authorities when necessary. According to her, fighting gender-based violence requires collective action to create a safer and just society.
Speaking on behalf of the Corps members, the President of the Legal Aid CDS Group, Miss Chisom Emeachi, expressed gratitude to the Attorney-General for his guidance and to Mrs. Egbuson for her enlightening presentation.
The highlight of the meeting was the presentation of awards to Mr. Dambo and Mrs. Egbuson in recognition of their outstanding contributions to Corps members’ development and the fight against gender-based violence.
