NDPC Launches ImPAcT Webinar Series to Promote Data Protection and Privacy in Nigeria

The National Commissioner and CEO of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), Dr. Vincent Olatunji, led an engaging fireside chat during the launch of the Commission’s Important Privacy Action Trend (ImPAcT) webinar series, aimed at fostering direct interaction on key data protection and privacy issues in Nigeria.

The maiden edition, themed “Data Rights: Who Owes You a Duty of Care?”, attracted over 200 participants and provided a platform for the NDPC to address questions from data subjects and stakeholders. Dr. Olatunji highlighted the distinction between data protection and privacy, noting that while most data controllers and processors are familiar with cybersecurity measures, many are only beginning to understand privacy and the rights of data subjects as guaranteed by the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDP Act), 2023.

Participants engaged directly with the National Commissioner, receiving detailed answers that deepened their understanding of the responsibilities of data controllers and processors, as well as the rights of individuals. The interactive session was widely praised, with attendees describing it as insightful and impactful, demonstrating NDPC’s commitment to championing privacy rights across Nigeria.
