Flash Floods Hit Yola North and South, NEMA Coordinates Emergency Response

Published on 25 September 2025 at 18:46

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has mobilized rapid response teams following flash floods that struck multiple communities in Yola North and Yola South Local Government Areas on Wednesday, September 24, 2025.

This latest flooding incident comes just weeks after similar disasters in the region, raising concerns over the areas’ vulnerability to recurrent floods.

NEMA, in collaboration with the Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency (ADSEMA) and local volunteers, deployed teams to conduct damage assessments, engage community leaders, and identify urgent humanitarian needs. Priority interventions include temporary shelters for displaced residents, health surveillance to prevent disease outbreaks, and support for vulnerable groups such as children, women, and the elderly.

Affected communities include Jambutu, Nent City, and Bachure (Yola North), as well as Wuro Jabbe, Saminaka, and Sangere Bode (Yola South). Several homes were submerged, roads rendered impassable, and farmlands with economic trees destroyed. Public infrastructure, including schools and worship centres, also suffered damage. While no fatalities were reported, several residents sustained minor injuries during evacuation efforts.

NEMA urged stakeholders to address structural challenges such as poor drainage systems and inadequate urban planning, which exacerbate flood risks. The agency reaffirmed its commitment to working with the Adamawa State Government, ADSEMA, and local communities to enhance preparedness, provide timely support, and strengthen resilience against future disasters.
