Borno/Adamawa – Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, have recorded significant operational successes against terrorist elements across Borno and Adamawa States, highlighting the continued resilience and strategic coordination of Nigeria’s security forces in the region. Between September 21 and 27, 2025, troops achieved key breakthroughs, disrupting insurgent networks, recovering weapons, and denying terrorists access to critical logistics.

During the period under review, a total of 14 terrorists were neutralized in coordinated operations across multiple locations, demonstrating the effectiveness of intelligence-led offensives. On September 27, troops engaged insurgents at Loskori Kura in Mafa Local Government Area, where 11 terrorists were neutralized. The operation yielded four AK-47 rifles, assorted ammunition, and a cache of drugs, signaling a significant blow to terrorist capabilities in the area.

The same day, a night offensive in Konduga Local Government Area resulted in the neutralization of another terrorist, while earlier, on September 22, troops eliminated a Boko Haram scout at Kolori Karumi, west of Alau Dam in Konduga. These precise operations illustrate the growing ability of the Joint Task Force to detect and target insurgents before they can carry out attacks.

Operational patrols in Adamawa State also yielded important results. On September 24, troops in Zar Village, Hong Local Government Area, recovered an AK-47 rifle, while forces at Forward Operating Base Magumeri intercepted another rifle from two suspected kidnappers. In Borno State, gallant troops repelled a large-scale assault on Forward Operating Base Azir in Damboa on September 25, killing one insurgent and recovering three AK-47 rifles along with materials used in the fabrication of improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

Beyond direct engagements, the Task Force intensified efforts to strangle terrorist access to essential logistics. On September 27, forces intercepted large quantities of urea fertilizer abandoned in shops at the Central Market in Mubi North, Adamawa State, an item commonly used in the manufacture of explosives. The same day, patrols recovered 20 jerrycans of smuggled Premium Motor Spirit along Fillin Ball–Gella Road in Mubi South after smugglers abandoned the consignment upon noticing the approaching troops. These proactive measures further constrain insurgent operations, denying them vital materials needed to sustain attacks.

Military observers note that these operations reflect a multi-dimensional strategy combining intelligence gathering, aggressive patrols, and logistics interdiction. Dr. Chinedu Okeke, a security analyst based in Abuja, remarked, “The recent successes of Operation HADIN KAI demonstrate that sustained pressure on terrorist networks, coupled with the denial of critical supplies, significantly diminishes their operational capability. This is a clear indicator of professional and disciplined execution by the troops.”

Local residents in affected areas have also expressed relief and appreciation for the military’s efforts. Many communities, long plagued by insurgent activity, highlighted the importance of persistent security operations in restoring normalcy and enabling economic and social recovery. “We are beginning to feel safer,” said a resident of Mafa Local Government Area. “The soldiers are not only fighting the terrorists, but they are also helping to keep our towns secure and our markets and farms protected.”

The Military High Command has publicly commended the troops for their gallantry, emphasizing that their actions are aligned with the broader national strategy to eradicate terrorism from the Northeast. In a statement, the Command reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining aggressive and intelligence-driven operations, noting that the success of troops in neutralizing insurgents and recovering arms is a critical step toward lasting peace in the region.

Experts suggest that such operations have long-term implications for regional stability. By systematically disrupting terrorist cells, seizing weapons and explosives, and curbing smuggling networks, security forces are creating an environment less conducive to insurgent activity. The interdiction of urea fertilizers and fuel supplies, in particular, is crucial in limiting the manufacture of IEDs and preventing attacks on civilians and security installations.

The recent victories also reinforce the morale of troops deployed to volatile regions, while signaling to insurgents that their operations will be met with coordinated, precise, and sustained resistance. Analysts note that maintaining pressure on terrorist logistics, combined with robust field operations, is essential for ensuring that hard-won gains in security are consolidated and expanded.

As Operation HADIN KAI continues, residents and observers alike remain hopeful that the momentum achieved between September 21 and 27 will translate into further security improvements, enabling communities in Borno and Adamawa States to resume normal life with reduced threats from insurgent elements. The combination of tactical victories, logistical interdictions, and community engagement demonstrates a comprehensive approach to counterterrorism that prioritizes both immediate security and long-term stability.
