Abuja — The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed the loss of five of its personnel in September 2025 after being fatally knocked down by reckless motorists while on active duty. Deeply saddened by the tragic incidents, the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, has directed that all drivers responsible be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, warning that such disregard for human life will no longer be tolerated.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the Corps said the fallen officers were not mere statistics, but individuals who served as fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, and breadwinners. Their lives, cut short while safeguarding Nigerian highways, stand as a solemn reminder of the risks FRSC operatives face daily in the line of duty.
The Corps Marshal expressed grave concern over the rising hazards confronting his personnel, which now extend beyond road crashes to include targeted assaults, violent attacks, and cases of kidnapping. He stressed that the FRSC will no longer condone any form of recklessness or aggression that endangers its workforce, emphasizing that offenders will face the full weight of the law.
While mourning the departed, Mohammed urged officers across all formations to remain vigilant and prioritize their own safety, reminding them that their ability to save lives depends on first being alive and secure. He added that the Corps is intensifying consultations with relevant authorities to enhance the protection of its staff and facilities. This, he explained, is not an act of hostility but a safeguard to ensure FRSC operatives can discharge their duties without fear of attacks.
On behalf of the FRSC management and staff, the Corps Marshal commiserated with the families of the deceased, paying tribute to their courage and sacrifice. He called on Nigerians to honour their memory by showing respect to traffic laws, demonstrating courtesy to officers on duty, and supporting the Corps’ mandate to reduce avoidable deaths on the nation’s roads.
Firmly warning against future violations, Mohammed reiterated that any motorist who disregards traffic laws or endangers FRSC personnel will face strict sanctions and legal consequences.
