Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has approved the recruitment of 2,600 additional forest guards to support security operations in Kwara North and South. The new recruits will join 700 forest guards who have already been deployed alongside other security agencies in communities affected by banditry and related criminal activities.
The recruitment process will begin with the selection of candidates, who are then expected to undergo a training program starting this week. The training is reported to include handling weapons, tactical procedures, and strategies intended to prepare the recruits for deployment in areas facing security threats. The program is designed to ensure that the recruits can operate effectively alongside existing security personnel and respond to incidents in both rural and forested areas of the state.
Akeweje Olayinka Fafoluyi, Senior Special Assistant on New Media to the Governor, said the recruitment forms part of ongoing efforts to provide additional personnel for security operations across the state. The 2,600 new forest guards are intended to strengthen coverage in communities where incidents of insecurity have been reported, complementing the work of the earlier recruits and other security agencies already on the ground.
According to available information, the deployment of the new recruits will aim to increase monitoring, reporting, and rapid response capabilities in regions where security concerns are most prominent. Observers note that previous deployments of forest guards have focused on patrolling high-risk areas and assisting in security-related tasks, and the addition of new personnel is expected to expand these efforts.
Once training is completed, the recruits will be assigned to key locations across Kwara State to join ongoing operations. Their work will include supporting existing security structures, coordinating with other agencies, and engaging in preventive measures to address incidents of banditry and criminal activity reported by residents.
The recruitment of these additional personnel follows a pattern of administrative measures taken by the state government to address reported security challenges in both northern and southern parts of Kwara. Authorities indicate that the recruitment is part of broader efforts to improve the operational capacity of security personnel and enhance their presence in areas affected by criminal activity.
