The Borno State Government has intensified efforts to revitalize its state-owned broadcast media, with a high-powered delegation led by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Security, Professor Usman Tar, embarking on a study tour of key national broadcasting institutions in Abuja. The delegation, constituting the Committee on the Resuscitation and Rehabilitation of Borno Radio Television (BRTV), visited the headquarters of Radio Nigeria and the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) to study operational models and explore potential areas of collaboration.

At Radio Nigeria, the Director General, Dr. Mohammed Bulama, represented by the Director of Engineering, Sanda Askira, received the delegation and conducted a guided tour of the newsroom, live broadcast studios, engineering unit, and digital transmission facilities. Later, at NTA National Headquarters, senior management officials engaged the delegation and expressed readiness to provide technical guidance in content production, digital migration, and staff capacity building. Both institutions commended the proactive approach of the Borno State Government in revitalizing its media platforms.

Prof. Tar, accompanied by Permanent Secretary Aminu Musa Chamalwa, described the initiative as a strategic component of Borno State’s post-insurgency recovery agenda. He stated, “Our mission is to benchmark against institutions that have stood the test of time in Nigerian broadcasting. Borno needs a modern, professional, and people-centered media platform that can inform, educate, and also foster peace and resilience among our citizens.”

The BRTV Resuscitation Committee, inaugurated by Governor Babagana Zulum, has been mandated to assess the current state of the corporation and submit a comprehensive roadmap covering infrastructure upgrades, digital transition, staff training, and sustainable operations. The committee aims to transform BRTV into a modern media organization capable of reaching diverse audiences while supporting civic engagement and public information dissemination.

Other members of the delegation included the General Manager of BRTV, Alhaji Ali Mamman Shuwa; Zonal Director of NTA Maiduguri, Mohammed Adam Ndirbita; and senior media stakeholders from the state, including former Commissioners Babakura Abba Jato and Prof. Nasir Abba Aji, as well as former General Managers and retired Permanent Secretaries Alhaji Adamu Isa Abadam and Alhaji Umar Mohammed. The visits and activities were coordinated by the Directorate of Information, Ministry of Information and Internal Security, Borno State, reflecting the state government’s commitment to strengthening public broadcasting services, enhancing staff capacity, and delivering a professional and reliable media platform to inform residents and support social cohesion across the state.
