The Borno State Cultural Troupe brought colour and rhythm to the Northern Elders Forum (NEF) Gala Night held during the maiden Northern Nigeria Investment and Industrialization Summit in Abuja. The performance highlighted the deep cultural roots of Borno State through traditional music, dance, and attire, drawing attention from both local and international participants at the event.

The troupe’s performance featured energetic drumming, the melodious sounds of the Algaita (a traditional wind instrument), and coordinated dance steps that represented different ethnic traditions within the state. Many attendees described the display as a reflection of northern Nigeria’s resilience and creativity amid efforts to reposition the region for economic growth.

Borno State’s participation at the summit was part of a broader initiative to showcase the state’s potential beyond its years of insecurity and conflict. In recent times, the government has invested in promoting tourism, cultural heritage, and creative industries as tools for peacebuilding and socio-economic renewal.

The 1st Northern Nigeria Investment and Industrialization Summit brought together state leaders, investors, and development partners to discuss strategies for industrialization, infrastructure development, and regional integration. The inclusion of cultural performances from participating states, including Borno, served as a reminder that investment and development are closely tied to cultural identity and social cohesion.

Speaking to journalists at the event, some cultural officials from Borno emphasized that art and cultural expression remain powerful instruments for restoring normalcy in communities once affected by insurgency. They added that cultural promotion also provides employment opportunities for young people and strengthens unity across diverse ethnic and religious backgrounds.

Observers at the gala noted that such representations of heritage can help reshape perceptions of the region from one defined by insecurity to one rich in culture, resilience, and investment opportunities.

The Borno State Directorate of Information confirmed that the cultural troupe’s participation was coordinated through collaboration between the Ministries of Investment, Information, and Internal Security — a move aimed at reinforcing the message that peace and development in the state must go hand in hand.
