Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has confirmed that no lives were lost in the fire outbreak that affected part of the Rivers State Secretariat Complex on Monday. The governor visited the site on Tuesday to assess the damage and announced the immediate commencement of a comprehensive renovation of the affected sections.
Governor Fubara said the fire primarily impacted the crèche section, which caters to babies of civil servants. He expressed gratitude that no casualties occurred and emphasized the importance of the state’s investment in its fire services, noting that the quick response of fire personnel helped contain the damage.
“This is really unfortunate, but we give God all the glory that no life was lost,” the governor stated.
He further explained that plans for renovating the Secretariat had been in development prior to the incident, but the fire now makes it imperative for the project to begin immediately. “With this particular incident, there won’t be any reason not to continue the renovation. Whatever it will require, this government will immediately swing into action,” Gov. Fubara assured.
The governor also commended civil servants for their continued support and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to initiatives that promote the welfare and development of Rivers people.
