Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has inaugurated two Special Advisers, four Chairmen, and members of several boards, institutions, and statutory commissions, charging them to demonstrate integrity, diligence, and commitment in the discharge of their duties.
The inauguration ceremony, held on Wednesday at the Old Banquet Hall of the Government House, Makurdi, drew top government officials and dignitaries from across the state.
Governor Alia congratulated the newly appointed officials and urged them to approach their responsibilities with seriousness and a strong sense of purpose, emphasizing that their performance would directly impact the state’s progress.
“The men and women standing here today have been tested and trusted. They are known to us and have served this state in various capacities. The roles you are about to play are significant — they will either make or mar the state. Please take your assignments seriously because Benue needs hands like yours to fix what was once broken,” the Governor said.
The Governor reminded the appointees that they now serve a population of over seven million citizens, and must, therefore, represent the people’s collective aspirations with transparency, humility, and accountability.
Reaffirming his administration’s focus on good governance, economic development, and institutional reform, Governor Alia cautioned against mixing politics with governance.
“Politicking must not come into the economy. We must promote governance. Let us change the way we think about the state — it’s not about Father Alia or any appointee, but about the seven million people of Benue,” he stated.
He also called for a revival of maintenance culture, respect for senior citizens, and teamwork among appointees to restore Benue’s reputation as one of Nigeria’s most admired states.
Governor Alia urged the newly sworn-in officials to justify the confidence reposed in them and reminded them that Benue will mark its 50th anniversary in February 2026, describing it as a milestone that demands renewed dedication from all public servants.
Responding on behalf of the appointees, James Tor, the new Special Adviser on Politics, Mobilization, and Special Duties, expressed gratitude to the Governor for the opportunity to serve and pledged loyalty, hard work, and accountability.
“We align ourselves fully with the Governor’s clear roadmap for Benue’s rapid progress and development. We will work diligently to justify the confidence reposed in us,” Tor said.
