Abuja — The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has announced a series of successful operations across the country leading to the arrest of several suspects and the seizure of large quantities of illicit substances. The operations, which took place between October 2 and 11, 2025, reflect the agency’s strengthened resolve to combat drug trafficking and abuse nationwide.
In Kano, NDLEA operatives apprehended a 52-year-old businessman, Ejiofor Godwin Emeka, at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA) following the discovery of 127 wraps of cocaine concealed in his private part and stomach. Ejiofor, who runs boutiques in Lagos and Onitsha, was intercepted upon arrival from Bangkok, Thailand via an Ethiopian Airlines flight on October 8. After a body scan confirmed the concealment, 58 wraps of cocaine were recovered immediately, while the remaining 69 were excreted under observation, bringing the total quantity to 1.388 kilograms.
At courier companies in Lagos, three separate consignments of drugs destined for the United Kingdom were intercepted. One of the shipments contained 1.74 kilograms of methamphetamine cleverly hidden inside glass ceramics. Another shipment comprised pentazocine and tramadol injections disguised as medical items, while the third was found to contain tramadol capsules concealed in a Vitamin C container. NDLEA officers also blocked attempts to smuggle skunk and tapentadol tablets disguised in black soap to Turkey, cocaine hidden in women’s handbags to Australia, and cannabis known as “Loud” concealed in herbal containers to the United Arab Emirates.
Similarly, NDLEA officers at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, intercepted 27,510 pills of rohypnol concealed in sachets of alcoholic drinks bound for South Africa. Following the arrest of two suspects, a freight agent and a cab driver, a follow-up operation led to the capture of the alleged mastermind, Samuel Omoruyi, popularly known as Yellow, at Oyingbo Market in Lagos. In a related incident, an Italy-based businessman, Enehizena Augustine Uyimwen, was arrested for attempting to export thousands of tramadol and tapentadol tablets hidden in food items. He later confessed that he was trafficking the drugs for another individual in exchange for a fee of €945.
In Edo State, the agency recovered 47 kilograms of skunk from the home of a suspect, while in Osun, operatives seized over 700 kilograms of the same substance from two separate operations. Arrests were also made in Rivers, Katsina, Niger, Ondo, and Kaduna States, where large quantities of narcotics, including tramadol, exol-5, pentazocine, and cannabis, were seized.
Beyond enforcement, NDLEA commands across the country intensified their War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) sensitization programmes. These outreach campaigns were held in schools, worship centres, and communities across states including Adamawa, Ebonyi, Katsina, Enugu, Niger, Kogi, Anambra, Rivers, Kano, and Osun, with a focus on raising awareness about the dangers of drug use and trafficking.
Chairman and Chief Executive of the NDLEA, Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), commended the agency’s officers for their professionalism and dedication to the national drug control effort. He urged all formations to maintain their vigilance, integrity, and balance in enforcing the law while advancing preventive education. Marwa reiterated that the agency remains committed to achieving a drug-free Nigeria through consistent enforcement and sustained public enlightenment.
