Troops attached to Operation WHIRL STROKE (OPWS) have intercepted a vehicle loaded with substances believed to be hard drugs during a routine checkpoint operation in Akwanga, Nasarawa State.

The incident took place on Monday, 14 October 2025, near Anguwan Malama, when soldiers conducting stop-and-search operations flagged down an ash-coloured Toyota Solara with registration number KJA-108FY (Lagos). The driver, however, abandoned the car and escaped into the surrounding bushes after noticing the troops.

A search of the vehicle revealed multiple bags filled with suspected marijuana, which were immediately confiscated. The vehicle and the recovered items are now under military custody for further investigation.

Confirming the incident, the Force Commander of Operation WHIRL STROKE, Major General Moses Gara, praised the troops for their vigilance and swift action. He assured that security forces remain committed to preventing criminals from using Nasarawa and neighbouring states as transit routes for illegal activities.

He also reiterated that the operation will continue to strengthen security partnerships and intensify patrols across Benue, Nasarawa, and Taraba States to maintain peace and order.

This interception highlights the military’s increasing success in disrupting drug trafficking networks operating in Nigeria’s North-Central region.
