Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the state government confirmed on October 15, 2025.

Alongside the governor, the Speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly and 22 lawmakers also tendered their resignations from the opposition party.

Governor Diri’s departure comes 24 hours after his counterpart in Enugu State, Peter Mbah, defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

It is widely believed that Governor Diri is set to join the APC, aligning himself with the ruling party ahead of upcoming political activities in the region.
