Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, has approved the release of ₦1.4 billion for the procurement of assorted school furniture across the state, reinforcing his administration’s ongoing commitment to improving the education sector.

The announcement was made by the Chief of Staff, Government House, Birnin Kebbi, Barrister Attahiru Maccido, shortly after the State Executive Council meeting chaired by the Governor on Wednesday.

Barrister Maccido highlighted that Governor Idris, a veteran classroom teacher and educationist, is deeply committed to revitalizing the state’s schools.

“There is a serious shortage of furniture in many of our schools, including those within the state capital and across the local government areas. By the sheer grace and commitment of His Excellency, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, he has approved and signed a contract for the supply of school furniture worth ₦1.4 billion. This initiative will go a long way in improving the learning environment and raising the educational standards across the state,” Barrister Maccido stated.

In a related development, Governor Idris also approved ₦900 million as a take-off grant for the newly established Kebbi State Bureau of Statistics. This was disclosed by the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Dr. Abba Sani Kalgo, who emphasized the importance of reliable data for governance and development planning.

“You may recall that His Excellency recently signed into law the establishment of the Kebbi State Bureau of Statistics. This administration firmly believes that you cannot change what you cannot measure. Reliable and verifiable statistics are critical for informed planning and sustainable development,” Dr. Kalgo said.

The grant will enable the Bureau to commence full operations, providing accurate, measurable, and purpose-driven data to guide policy formulation and implementation. Professor Usman has been appointed as the pioneer Chief Executive of the Bureau.

Governor Idris’ approval of these funds underscores his administration’s dual focus on human capital development and institutional strengthening, ensuring that Kebbi State continues to make strides in education, governance, and socio-economic planning.
