The Borno State Police Command has recorded another major success in its ongoing effort to curb vehicle theft and other related crimes across the state, following the recovery of a stolen Toyota Corolla LE barely hours after it was reported missing.
According to a statement from the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, the operation was carried out under the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Abdulmajid, psc, whose leadership has continued to strengthen proactive policing and rapid response across Borno State.
The incident occurred on October 17, 2025, when a Maiduguri-based journalist, Maryam Mala, reported that her silver Toyota Corolla LE with registration number MKA 449 TA and chassis number 1NXBR32E63Z042447, valued at approximately โฆ7 million, had been stolen. The car was said to have been parked in front of her office at Ndarason Radio Station, located along Talba Road in the Old GRA area of Maiduguri, before it was taken away by unknown persons.
Acting promptly on the report, the Commissioner of Police deployed patrol teams to strategic points across the Maiduguri Metropolitan Council, initiating a coordinated stop-and-search operation to track the vehicle’s movement. Within less than two hours of the report, operatives led by DSP Immam Mamunu, the Divisional Police Officer of GRA Division, successfully recovered the stolen vehicle abandoned behind State Hotel Quarters in the same GRA district.
The vehicle was immediately examined by the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit to ensure it was safe and free of any hidden explosives before being taken back to the station for further verification. It was later confirmed to be intact and subsequently secured as evidence pending the conclusion of investigations.
The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Maiduguri for detailed investigation, while efforts are ongoing to identify and arrest those responsible for the theft.
In his reaction, CP Naziru Abdulmajid commended the professionalism and swift response displayed by the officers involved, noting that their prompt action reflects the Command’s renewed commitment to maintaining public safety and safeguarding property across the state. He reaffirmed that the Police under his command would continue to work tirelessly to ensure that Borno remains safe for all residents and visitors.
The recovery of the vehicle has been widely applauded by residents, who praised the Command for its vigilance and quick intervention. The incident underscores the growing confidence in the police force’s operational efficiency and reinforces public belief that crime prevention and response in the state are gaining significant ground.
