The Kano State Government has intensified its campaign against substance abuse and immoral activities by shutting down a popular shisha lounge known as ARFAT, located along Abdullahi Bayero Road in the state capital. The operation was carried out in collaboration with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), the Kano State Police Command, and the Kano State Tourism Board as part of ongoing efforts to combat drug abuse and enforce public morality.

According to reports, the shisha lounge had become a major attraction for young people engaging in smoking and other drug-related activities. Officials described the location as a high-risk environment that encouraged substance use and social misconduct, prompting the government to take immediate action.

During the raid, NDLEA operatives arrested several individuals found inside the establishment and confiscated large quantities of shisha products and alcoholic beverages. The suspects were taken into custody for interrogation as authorities began investigations into the extent of illegal activities within the premises.

Speaking after the operation, the Chairman of the Kano State Tourism Board, Alhaji Tukur Bala Sagagi, reaffirmed that there is an existing law in Kano State prohibiting the consumption of shisha and other intoxicating substances. He emphasized that the government remains committed to protecting the moral fabric of the society and will not tolerate any business that promotes or enables drug abuse.

Alhaji Sagagi explained that the closure of the shisha lounge is part of a broader initiative launched by the state government to tackle the growing problem of drug addiction, particularly among the youth. He noted that the Tourism Commission, in partnership with law enforcement agencies, will continue to identify and close down similar establishments operating in defiance of state regulations.

He further warned operators of drinking joints and entertainment centers that violate the law to clean up their operations immediately or face similar sanctions. According to him, the government will not hesitate to act against any individual or business that undermines its policies on public health, safety, and morality.

Hon. Ibrahim Adam Bagwai, representing the Ministry of Tourism, described the development as a necessary step in safeguarding Kano’s reputation as a state known for discipline, culture, and adherence to religious values. He praised the collaborative efforts of the NDLEA and the Police for ensuring a peaceful and successful enforcement exercise.

The crackdown on shisha lounges in Kano has been widely applauded by community leaders and parents who believe that the government’s intervention will help curb rising youth involvement in drugs and other harmful activities. As the campaign continues, authorities have assured that similar operations will be sustained until the menace of drug abuse is significantly reduced across the state.
