Tragedy struck in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State on Thursday evening as armed bandits launched a deadly assault on Layin Danauta village, leaving at least nine residents dead, including three underage girls. The victims, all daughters of a local resident identified as Alhaji Salisu Maiwada, were among those brutally murdered in the coordinated attack.

According to reports by Sahara Reporters, the gunmen stormed the community at about 7 p.m., surrounding the village and blocking all entry and exit routes before opening fire indiscriminately on helpless residents. Eyewitnesses described the raid as “a well-coordinated and ruthless attack,” noting that the bandits appeared to have carefully planned their assault.

In addition to the three minors, five married men and a young single man were confirmed dead, while about thirteen other villagers sustained severe injuries and are currently receiving treatment at nearby medical facilities. Several residents were also reportedly abducted during the chaos, with families still trying to locate their missing relatives as of Friday morning.

Local sources said the attack has once again thrown the entire Birnin Gwari axis into mourning, with many describing it as one of the most violent incidents in recent months. The community has repeatedly suffered from bandit invasions, kidnappings, and cattle rustling, despite the presence of security operatives in the area.

Residents are now calling on the Kaduna State Government and federal authorities to urgently intervene and strengthen security in Birnin Gwari, which has become one of the most dangerous flashpoints in northern Nigeria.
