The Edo State Migration Agency (EDMA) has welcomed twenty-two indigenes of the state who recently returned from Libya after enduring harsh and traumatic migration experiences.

The returnees were received at the agency’s headquarters in Benin City by the Director General, Hon. Chief Lucky Agazuma, alongside other senior officials of the state government.

In his remarks, Chief Agazuma praised the returnees for their courage and resilience in surviving the ordeal and choosing to return home. He reaffirmed the commitment of the Edo State Government to support their reintegration into society through various empowerment and rehabilitation initiatives.

“You are safe now that you’re home. EDMA remains dedicated to ensuring you’re properly reintegrated into the community,” Agazuma assured. “We will continue to link you with empowerment opportunities that align with your skills and aspirations through our local and international partners.”

During the reception exercise, three university graduates among the returnees were immediately linked to the Edo State Government’s employment portal to register for ongoing recruitment opportunities. The remaining nineteen returnees were given financial stipends to assist their resettlement in their home communities.

One of the returnees, Mr. Ikponmwosa Precious, expressed gratitude to the state government and the agency for their warm reception. He appealed for continued support to help them rebuild their lives and contribute positively to society.

Over the years, EDMA has remained a key institution in Edo State’s efforts to combat irregular migration, offering returnees counseling, vocational training, and startup support to aid their reintegration and discourage risky migration routes.
