Governors, ministers, traditional rulers, and other regional stakeholders gathered in Akure, Ondo State, for the Southwest Leaders’ Dialogue, a high-level forum aimed at promoting power devolution, genuine federalism, and stronger collaboration among the South-West states.
Host Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa commended President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms, noting their role in stabilising the national economy and enhancing state–federal cooperation. He also highlighted the impact of federal projects within Ondo State and emphasized the need for institutional reforms to deepen democratic governance across Nigeria.
Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu called for a unified regional agenda, stressing that collective action is essential for sustainable development in the South-West. Prominent leaders, including Chief Bisi Akande and Pa Reuben Fasoranti, advocated for true federalism, encouraging states to work together beyond party affiliations to strengthen governance and regional integration.
Traditional rulers in attendance voiced their support for ongoing dialogue, emphasizing that continuous engagement among political and cultural leaders is vital for promoting unity and socio-economic development in the South-West.
The gathering underscored a shared vision among regional leaders to balance power, foster cooperation, and drive inclusive development across Nigeria’s South-Western states.
