The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially presented Certificates of Return to the re-elected Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, CFR, and his Deputy, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, following their victory in the November 8, 2025 Governorship Election.

The event, held on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, at the INEC office in Awka, marked the formal completion of the state’s electoral process in accordance with Section 72(1) of the Electoral Act, 2022, which mandates the Commission to issue Certificates of Return within 14 days to duly elected candidates.

The presentation was attended by top officials including the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), members of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES), political stakeholders, the media, and other dignitaries.

In his address, the Supervising National Electoral Commissioner in charge of Anambra State, Dr. Ken Ukeagu, said the 2025 Anambra Governorship Election reflected the nation’s steady progress toward electoral integrity, transparency, and inclusiveness.

He highlighted that the deployment of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) and the INEC Result Viewing (IReV) portal strengthened transparency, while the peaceful conduct of the election across all 21 Local Government Areas demonstrated the growing confidence of voters in Nigeria’s democratic process.

Dr. Ukeagu commended the security agencies under ICCES, NYSC ad-hoc staff, and INEC personnel for their professionalism and dedication to duty. He also praised political parties, candidates, civil society organizations, observer groups, and the media for their constructive roles during the electoral process.

“This certificate is not merely a document of victory; it is a symbol of renewed trust, confidence, and responsibility,”
Dr. Ken Ukeagu, Supervising National Electoral Commissioner.

He urged Governor Soludo to approach his second term with humility, accountability, and inclusiveness, reminding him that while elections produce winners, governance belongs to the people.

“I urge Your Excellency to approach this second tenure with an even greater sense of humility, accountability, and inclusiveness,” he said.

Dr. Ukeagu further charged the governor to view his re-election as an invitation to unity and service, emphasizing that the people’s renewed mandate carries a sacred obligation to serve all citizens, irrespective of political, ethnic, or religious affiliation.

He encouraged the Soludo administration to sustain peace, deepen infrastructural development, promote economic growth, and ensure inclusive governance in the state.

The INEC Commissioner also reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to continuous improvement in electoral management through reforms, technology upgrades, and voter education ahead of future elections, including the FCT Area Council and off-cycle governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun States.

He concluded by commending the people of Anambra State for their resilience, patience, and democratic spirit, adding that their participation continues to strengthen Nigeria’s electoral credibility.

“May God bless Anambra State. May God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he prayed.

The event ended with the formal presentation of the Certificates of Return to Prof. Chukwuma Soludo and Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, marking the beginning of a new chapter in Anambra’s democratic journey.
