Asari Dokubo, a former Niger Delta militant leader, has demanded the arrest and court-martial of Lieutenant A.M. Yerima following his altercation with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike. The clash occurred at a disputed property site in Abuja's Gaduwa District, where the naval officer allegedly blocked Wike and officials from accessing the land.
The confrontation between the military officer and the minister has sparked controversy, with Dokubo condemning the officer's actions as "unprofessional and unlawful". According to Dokubo, the officer's behavior was unacceptable and warranted disciplinary action.
"I’m not taking sides with Wike; I’m taking sides with what is the law, the rule, and the convention," Dokubo said in a video shared on Facebook. "What happened yesterday, in any sane society, that person would be reprimanded and detained." He emphasized that Wike, as the Minister of the FCT, holds a higher position in the government hierarchy and should be accorded due respect
The officer should be court-martialled," Dokubo said, adding that "in the hierarchy of government, Wike is higher than him and the man that gave him the order, including the Chief of Naval Staff."
"A military man is subject to the constitution; he is not above it.
The incident has raised concerns about the relationship between the military and civilian authorities in Nigeria. Dokubo's call for the officer's court-martial has sparked debate, with some arguing that the military must respect civilian authority
