Mike Arnold, the Republican Mayor of Blanco City in Texas, has issued a strongly worded statement urging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take immediate action regarding the millions of internally displaced Nigerians living in makeshift camps across the country.

In the statement, Arnold called on President Tinubu to officially recognize the widespread displacement crisis and stop referring to displaced citizens as “vagrants” or “criminals.” He stressed that these individuals are victims of violence, insecurity, and forced migration—not wrongdoers.

The American mayor further demanded that the Federal Government immediately release all available funding to address the urgent humanitarian needs of displaced families. He also encouraged the Nigerian government to formally request international aid to help manage the crisis and improve conditions in the camps.

Arnold emphasized the need for a practical and safe resettlement plan to return displaced Nigerians to their ancestral lands. He warned that failure to act promptly could be interpreted as negligence or complicity, potentially exposing the Tinubu administration to genocide-related charges at international courts.

The statement, which has generated discussions across political and humanitarian circles, highlights growing international concern about the plight of Nigeria’s displaced populations and the government’s responsibility to protect them.
