The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has uncovered a sophisticated drug-distribution network in Lagos that concealed illicit substances inside packages branded as Christmas cookies. The discovery followed an intelligence-driven operation that led operatives to a hideout in the Lekki axis of the state, where the syndicate had been operating discreetly under the guise of selling festive snacks.
According to NDLEA investigators, the criminals went as far as importing specially printed, colourful designer sachets bearing cookie and snack labels to disguise the true contents—premium-grade cannabis, popularly known as Canadian Loud. The syndicate reportedly used these festive-themed packages to avoid suspicion, particularly during the busy holiday season when deliveries and gift items are in high circulation.
During the raid, NDLEA operatives arrested two suspected masterminds behind the scheme, identified as Deji Adesanya and Olubiyi Majekodunmi. At the time of their arrest, officers recovered several packs of the disguised “Christmas cookies” alongside approximately five kilograms of Canadian Loud prepared for distribution. Early findings indicate that their network relied heavily on WhatsApp and other social-media platforms to advertise and deliver the disguised drugs to clients, making it one of the increasingly digital-driven drug-trafficking operations emerging across the state.
This latest bust forms part of the agency’s intensified crackdown ahead of the festive period, a time when traffickers often attempt to move large volumes of illegal substances under various disguises. NDLEA officials noted that such creativity in packaging—using seasonal items like Christmas cookies, teddy bears, and vitamin-supplement containers—shows the evolving tactics of drug traffickers seeking to evade law-enforcement scrutiny.
The agency has reiterated its commitment to intercepting these concealed consignments and dismantling syndicates exploiting the holiday season to push harmful substances into communities. It also encouraged the public to remain vigilant, stressing that parcels or gift-like packages, especially those received unexpectedly, may sometimes be used to mask illicit drugs.
