Benin City, Edo State — A 19‑year‑old man identified as Nsikak Okon was arrested on Friday by the Nigeria Police Force following a reckless high‑speed incident that resulted in three police officers being knocked down and several vehicles damaged in Benin City, Edo State. The arrest, which has triggered widespread public reaction, unfolded after a viral video captured the culmination of a dangerous chase through busy streets.
According to the Force Public Relations Officer, Chief Superintendent of Police Benjamin Hundeyin, the dramatic encounter began when Okon, driving a heavily tinted Mercedes‑Benz with no number plates, sped past officers on routine patrol without stopping. The vehicle’s unregistered status, combined with its darkened windows, drew immediate attention from security personnel.
Hundeyin detailed that the suspect initially sped past officers in a manner described as “very reckless.” Moments later, as he circled back, his vehicle narrowly missed an officer before a subsequent pass resulted in the collision that injured three officers. “On your way back, you sped past again, nearly knocking down an officer. And in what appears to be very deliberate, you came back again with the same reckless speed, this time successfully knocking down three officers,” Hundeyin wrote in an official post shared on the police’s social media platform.
Two of the injured officers have since been treated and discharged from hospital, while a third remains under medical care. The extent of their injuries has not been fully disclosed, but authorities confirmed that their recovery is ongoing.
