Armed attackers have killed, injured, and abducted residents in Yar Galma settlement, located in Zarummai village of Bukkuyum Local Government Area in Zamfara State, in another violent incident that has deepened concerns over insecurity in the region.

Local sources and preliminary security reports indicate that the attackers invaded the community in the early hours of the day, moving through residential areas while firing sporadically. Residents were forced to flee into nearby bushes as the gunmen advanced through the settlement, with the attack lasting long enough for multiple casualties and abductions to occur before any meaningful response could be mounted.

Yar Galma is one of several rural settlements within the Zarummai district of Bukkuyum, an area that has repeatedly come under attack in recent years due to the activities of armed groups operating across Zamfara State. The terrain, which includes forested areas and difficult road access, has continued to hinder rapid intervention by security forces.

According to accounts from residents, several people were killed during the raid, while others sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment at Bukkuyum General Hospital. Hospital sources confirmed that victims were brought in shortly after the attack and are being treated for gunshot wounds and other trauma-related injuries, though the exact number of casualties has not yet been officially confirmed.

Security personnel and local vigilante groups reportedly arrived in the area after the attackers had fled. By that time, the assailants had already escaped through forest routes commonly used as hideouts, making immediate pursuit difficult.

Witnesses described scenes of panic during the invasion, with families running in different directions, homes being abandoned mid-attack, and gunfire heard across different parts of the community. Some residents who returned after the attackers left reportedly found bodies and signs of destruction, although full details are still being verified by authorities.

The Zamfara State Police Command has not released an official statement as of the time of reporting, but security sources confirm that investigations are ongoing. Efforts are underway to determine the exact number of people killed, the identities of those abducted, and the direction in which the attackers escaped.

Bukkuyum Local Government Area remains one of the most affected areas in Zamfara State in terms of recurring bandit attacks. Over time, rural communities in the area have experienced repeated incidents involving killings, kidnappings, and displacement of residents, often forcing many families to abandon farming activities and relocate to safer towns.

The latest attack follows a familiar pattern in the region, where armed groups on motorcycles strike remote villages, carry out killings or abductions, and retreat quickly into surrounding forests before security forces can arrive. This has continued to pose significant challenges for counter-operations.

Healthcare workers at Bukkuyum General Hospital say they are currently managing several victims from the attack, some of whom are in critical condition. The hospital has reportedly been dealing with recurring emergency cases linked to insecurity in surrounding villages, placing pressure on limited medical resources.

Residents of Zarummai district say fear has intensified following the attack, with many expressing concern over possible further raids. Some families are reportedly considering temporary relocation due to repeated exposure to violence in the area.

Local leaders have repeatedly called for stronger security deployment in rural parts of Bukkuyum, warning that continued attacks are worsening humanitarian conditions and disrupting farming, which is the main source of livelihood in the region.

Security analysts note that Zamfara State continues to face sustained challenges from armed bandit groups operating across rural corridors. These groups are believed to take advantage of weak surveillance, limited road infrastructure, and vast forest cover to carry out coordinated attacks on vulnerable settlements.

Despite ongoing military and security operations in the state, remote communities like Yar Galma remain exposed due to delays in response time and difficulty in maintaining permanent security presence across scattered villages.

Authorities are expected to release more detailed information once investigations are completed, including confirmation of casualty figures and the number of abducted persons. Security agencies have also indicated that search operations may be extended into nearby forest areas in an attempt to trace the attackers and locate missing residents.

As of now, the situation in Yar Galma and surrounding communities remains tense, with residents calling for urgent intervention to prevent further attacks and restore a sense of safety in Bukkuyum Local Government Area.
