A Nigerian passenger, Alhaji Isiaq Dahunsi, has died aboard a commercial flight from Istanbul, Türkiye, to Lagos in the early hours of Monday, 27 April 2026. The aircraft was en route to Murtala Muhammed International Airport when the incident occurred, according to a close associate who announced the death on social media.
Ishola Isiaq, an Imam of the Ansarudeen Society of Nigeria and a childhood friend of the deceased, wrote on his verified Facebook page: “I lost a childhood friend, Late Alhaji Isiaq Dahunsi, this morning, Monday 27th April 2026, on his way back from Istanbul, Turkey, to Murtala Muhammed International Airport. He died inside the flight.” He added a prayer for the deceased, saying, “May Almighty Allah accept his return and forgive his shortcomings.”
Details surrounding the circumstances of Dahunsi’s death remain unclear. Imam Isiaq did not disclose the cause of death nor identify the airline that operated the flight. As of Tuesday, 28 April 2026, no official statement had been issued by the airline, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, or aviation authorities in either Nigeria or Türkiye. The absence of official information has left questions unanswered about whether the death was due to a medical emergency, a pre‑existing condition, or another factor.
The incident has prompted an outpouring of condolences on social media, with friends and acquaintances expressing shock and offering prayers for the deceased. Hundreds of users have commented on the Imam’s post, describing the news as heartbreaking and asking for divine mercy for the departed.
For now, the cause of death remains unknown, and the public awaits an official word from the airline or the relevant aviation authorities. The body of Alhaji Isiaq Dahunsi is expected to be received at Murtala Muhammed International Airport for repatriation, and further updates are likely once an investigation or medical report is completed.
