Suspected Kidnappers Nabbed With AK-47 Rifles in Kwara

Nigeria Police Force in Kwara State has arrested two suspected kidnappers during an intelligence-led operation that security authorities say prevented a planned criminal attack within the state.

According to the Kwara State Police Command, operatives of the Intelligence Response Team carried out the operation after receiving credible intelligence and conducting sustained surveillance on the suspects within Ilorin metropolis.

Police authorities disclosed that preliminary investigations revealed the suspects allegedly attempted to evade security detection by transferring weapons to a female accomplice for onward movement to another operational location where the planned attack was expected to take place.

The suspects later reportedly led investigators to a hideout where security operatives recovered three AK-47 rifles, five AK-47 magazines and 143 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition.

According to the police, further investigations indicated that the suspects were allegedly part of a kidnapping syndicate operating within and around Kwara State. Authorities added that members of the group were reportedly moving in smaller units toward a designated convergence point before the planned operation was disrupted through intelligence-driven policing.

The command also confirmed that efforts were ongoing to apprehend additional fleeing members of the syndicate linked to the operation. Police authorities stated that the arrested suspects would be charged to court after the conclusion of investigations.

The latest arrest comes amid growing security concerns in parts of Kwara State and the North Central region, where incidents involving kidnappings, armed attacks and violent criminal activity have increasingly drawn national attention. In recent months, security agencies have intensified surveillance and tactical operations targeting criminal gangs operating across Kwara and neighbouring states.

Kwara State previously witnessed major security incidents earlier in 2026, including deadly attacks in Kaiama axis communities that triggered expanded military and police operations across parts of the state.

Security analysts note that intelligence-led policing and coordinated surveillance have become central strategies in Nigeria’s ongoing fight against kidnapping networks and armed criminal groups operating across rural and urban communities.

Residents of Kwara State have continued calling for sustained security operations, improved intelligence gathering and stronger collaboration between security agencies and local communities to curb violent crimes.
