The Ogun State Police Command has launched an urgent search operation following the abduction of three members of the same family by a heavily armed gang at a residential estate in Ijebu‑Ode. The attackers, estimated to be about 15 in number, stormed the Ipojo Golden Estate in the Oke‑Eri area of the town around 7 p.m. on Monday, May 11, 2026, shooting sporadically before breaking into a house and seizing a man and two women. The family’s head, Yesiru Badewa, was away on official duty when the pistol‑wielding men struck.
Eyewitnesses described the incident as swift and terrifying. The armed men, carrying sophisticated weapons, forced their way into the Badewa family’s home, ransacked the building, and then marched the three victims out under gunfire. One witness noted that the attackers wore no masks except for one member of the team, adding that they also made an unsuccessful attempt to force their way into another house before fleeing into a nearby forest. A woman was shot by the fleeing kidnappers as they disappeared with the abducted family members; her condition has not been disclosed.
Speaking to reporters, the head of the affected family, Mr Yesiru Badewa, expressed deep anguish over the abduction, revealing that one of the kidnapped women was already ill before the attack. “This has devastated us,” he said. “One of those taken is sick, and we are worried her condition may deteriorate in captivity. We appeal to the authorities and kind‑hearted Nigerians to come to our aid.” Community leaders described the attack as a shock to a neighbourhood that had previously been considered peaceful and well‑developed. A resident of the estate, who asked not to be named, added that the sound of gunshots threw the neighbourhood into confusion, forcing many people to remain indoors for fear of being caught in the crossfire.
The Ogun State Police Command confirmed the incident on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, and stated that tactical and intelligence‑driven operations had been intensified to rescue the victims and track down the perpetrators. Police Public Relations Officer DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi said, “The Ogun State Police Command is aware of the incident at Ipojo Golden Estate, Oke‑Eri, Ijebu‑Ode, and has intensified tactical and intelligence operations to rescue the victims and apprehend the perpetrators. The Command remains proactive and committed to tackling kidnapping and other violent crimes across the state.”
As of the time of filing this report, no contact had been established with the abductors, and no ransom demand had been issued. The police are urging residents to remain calm, cooperate with security agencies, and provide any useful information that could help in the ongoing search for the kidnapped family members.
