The Ogun State Police Command has arrested two suspected armed robbers and recovered three stolen vehicles along with other incriminating items in a coordinated intelligence‑led operation across the Ifo and Sango areas of the state. The suspects, 48‑year‑old Mohammed Adeniyi Usman, popularly known as “Mandela”, and 38‑year‑old Abiodun Ogunojukan, alias “Ilasa”, are alleged members of a criminal syndicate specialising in armed robbery and vehicle snatching within Ogun State and beyond, the command said in a statement on Wednesday, May 13, 2026.

The operation was carried out by detectives from the Ifo and Sango Divisions, led by the Divisional Police Officers, CSP Kamorudeen Olabisi (Ifo) and CSP Idowu G. Olatunji (Sango), following sustained investigations into rising cases of armed robbery and car theft in the two divisions. According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the breakthrough began on Saturday, May 10, 2026, when operatives of the Ifo Division, acting on credible intelligence, stormed a suspected criminal hideout in the Adeleye Area, Itele, Ota, where stolen vehicles were allegedly being concealed.

Upon arrival at about 4:00 p.m., the officers sighted several vehicles believed to be stolen within the premises. They immediately cordoned off the area and laid a strategic ambush for the occupants, who were not present at the time. The operation yielded success at about 10:35 p.m. with the arrest of Mohammed Adeniyi Usman alias “Mandela”. A search of the premises led to the recovery of a Toyota Corolla belonging to a complainant, a Toyota Venza allegedly stolen at gunpoint on April 26, 2026, at Ilese‑Awo, Abeokuta, and a Honda Crosstour reportedly snatched during a separate armed robbery operation at Ijoko, Ota. Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect is part of a wider criminal syndicate involved in armed robbery and vehicle snatching within Ogun State and neighbouring areas.

In a follow‑up intelligence‑led operation on Sunday, May 11, 2026, at about 5:00 p.m., operatives from the Ifo and Sango Divisions proceeded to the Sango‑Ota Under Bridge, where the second suspect, Abiodun Ogunojukan alias “Ilasa”, was apprehended. During interrogation, Ogunojukan allegedly confessed to his involvement in the crimes and provided useful information to help track down other fleeing members of the syndicate and recover additional stolen vehicles. Other items recovered from the suspects include two live cartridges, foreign currencies, a So‑Safe Corps uniform, an MP3 sound system, and a plasma television set.

The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCIID) at Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further discreet investigation and prosecution. The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the operatives for their professionalism, intelligence‑led policing approach, and swift response. The CP reiterated the command’s unwavering commitment to the protection of lives and property and the sustained clampdown on criminal elements across the state.
