Troops of the Nigerian Army's 17 Brigade successfully repelled an attempted terrorist incursion into Ruwan Godiya community in Faskari Local Government Area, Katsina State, on the evening of May 28, 2026.

According to military sources, troops deployed in the area responded to a distress call from residents at about 7:30 p.m. after suspected terrorists were reportedly sighted with motorcycles in a nearby bush, allegedly preparing to launch an attack on the community.

The troops immediately mobilised to intercept the armed group. However, before reaching the village, the terrorists reportedly detected the advancing soldiers and opened fire, while some members of the group fled into the surrounding bush.

The troops responded with sustained firepower, resulting in the neutralisation of two suspected terrorists during the encounter.

Military sources further disclosed that soldiers pursued the fleeing attackers, leading to the recovery of one motorcycle and 12 rounds of ammunition believed to have been abandoned during their retreat.

No casualties were recorded among the troops during the operation.

Following the engagement, security forces conducted aggressive patrols across the area to maintain dominance and prevent the terrorists from regrouping or carrying out further attacks.

The operation forms part of ongoing efforts by security forces to deny criminal and terrorist elements freedom of movement across vulnerable communities in Katsina State and the wider North-West region.
