The Katsina State Police Command has arrested six suspects over an alleged violent attack that disrupted preparations for the Eid-el-Kabir, also known as Sallah, celebration in Keku Village, Musawa Local Government Area of Katsina State. The arrests followed a swift security operation after residents reported an assault that left several people injured.
According to the police, the incident occurred on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at about 2:00 p.m., when a group of men allegedly stormed the community armed with sticks and machetes and attacked villagers. The assault reportedly caused panic within the area and disrupted the relative peace being enjoyed ahead of the Sallah festivities.
The development was confirmed on Friday, May 29, 2026, in a statement issued in Katsina by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu. According to the statement, police operatives responded immediately after receiving distress reports from residents and successfully arrested six suspects linked to the attack.
The suspects were identified as Dayyabu Salisu (25), Usama Mansur (23), Yunusa Nura (27), Abdulmumini Alka (23), Buhari Suleiman (27), and Abubakar Safiyanu (27). Police said weapons and items believed to have been used during the attack were recovered from them, including machetes, sticks and motorcycles.
In the statement, DSP Abubakar Sadiq said preliminary investigations indicated that the suspects had allegedly conspired to disrupt the peaceful Sallah celebration and destabilise the calm being enjoyed in the area. He added that the prompt intervention of operatives attached to the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) prevented the situation from escalating further.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects criminally conspired to disrupt the peaceful Sallah celebration and breach the relative peace being enjoyed in the area. The prompt response of VCRU personnel saved the situation from escalating further,” the police statement said. Authorities also confirmed that victims injured during the attack were taken to a nearby hospital where they are currently receiving treatment.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police in Katsina State, CP Ali Umar Fage, condemned the attack and reassured residents of the Command’s commitment to maintaining law and order across the state, particularly during the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations. He urged members of the public to remain calm, cooperate with security agencies and promptly report suspicious activities.
The police further stated that the suspects would be charged to court after the completion of investigations. The Command reiterated its zero-tolerance stance against thuggery, mob violence and any activity capable of threatening public peace and security.
The arrests come as security agencies across Katsina State intensify operations ahead of the 2026 Eid-el-Kabir celebration. Earlier in the week, the Federal Road Safety Corps and other security agencies announced special deployments across the state aimed at ensuring a peaceful and secure festive period for residents.
Stone Reporters note that Katsina State has faced recurring security challenges in recent years, including banditry, kidnapping and communal violence. Authorities have continued to strengthen intelligence gathering and rapid-response operations as part of broader efforts to prevent criminal activities and maintain stability across the state.
