The Enugu State Police Command has arrested a 28-year-old man, Osani Joseph, for alleged armed robbery and cultism, recovering a fake gun, a dagger, methamphetamine and cannabis during a raid on a criminal hideout in the Enugu metropolis. Joseph, a resident of Premier Layout, Enugu, was apprehended by operatives of the Anti-Cultism Sub-Unit of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) on May 26, 2026, at about 8:30 p.m., acting on credible intelligence. The Command’s spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday, May 30, 2026.
According to Ndukwe, the operatives stormed a blackspot at the New Artisan area of Enugu and detained the suspect. During a search, they recovered a silver-coloured gun-like object, which the suspect reportedly used to rob unsuspecting members of the public, a dagger, 10 wraps of a substance suspected to be methamphetamine (commonly known as Mkpuru Mmiri), and a sachet containing a substance suspected to be cannabis. The suspect allegedly confessed to using the imitation firearm to commit robbery and admitted being a member of the Supreme Vikings Confraternity. “A discreet investigation into the case is ongoing to unravel other criminal networks linked to the suspect and ensure diligent prosecution,” Ndukwe said.
Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, CP Mamman Giwa, reiterated the command’s unwavering commitment to ridding the state of criminal elements. He urged residents to remain law‑abiding, vigilant, and supportive of the police through the provision of credible and timely information.
