The Zamfara State Police Command has arrested three suspected members of a notorious armed gang terrorising residents of the Kasuwan Daji area in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area, recovering a cache of weapons and other items during an intelligence-led operation. The suspects were arrested on Friday, 29 May 2026, by operatives of the Command’s Violence Crime Response Unit (VCRU), acting on credible intelligence, according to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Yazid Abubakar. The suspects were identified as Ali Bahago (the alleged gang leader), Hassan Dan Kure, and Dahiru Lawali, all residents of communities within Kaura Namoda LGA. Police said the suspects had been on the Command’s watchlist for some time, and preliminary investigations have linked them to several criminal activities in the area.

During the operation, one gang member was neutralised, police said. A subsequent search of the gang leader’s residence yielded a significant haul of weapons and other items, including a pump-action gun, a single‑barrel gun, a fabricated G3 rifle, two Dane guns, a locally made pistol, ammunition, cartridges, a handcuff chain, and three Boxer motorcycles. The suspects are currently in police custody as investigations continue to track down other fleeing members of the gang and recover more weapons.

The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Abubakar, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to tackling armed criminality across the state and ensuring the safety of residents. He urged the public to provide timely and credible information to security agencies to assist in ongoing operations.

The arrest of the suspects and the recovery of the weapons is a significant step in the fight against banditry and armed violence in Zamfara State. The state, like many in the North‑West, has been plagued by insecurity from armed gangs locally called “bandits”, who loot villages, kidnap residents, and pose a growing threat. The Nigerian military and police have intensified operations in the region, but attacks persist.

The Zamfara State Police Command has reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety of residents, and the public has been urged to cooperate with security agencies by providing timely and credible information. The latest operation is part of the Command’s ongoing efforts to combat crime and bring perpetrators to justice.
