The attack was confirmed by the lawmaker representing the area in the Sokoto State House of Assembly, Hon. Aminu Boza. He stated that the assailants struck at Kantin Gabas, on the outskirts of the town, near the community's Eid prayer ground. While he could not give an exact number of those taken, a resident who spoke anonymously said about 10 people were abducted.
This was reportedly the third time bandits had attempted to invade the town using the same route.
The slain victim was a member of the Sokoto Community Guards. He sustained a gunshot wound to the hand during the operation and died while being transported to a hospital on Tuesday morning, 9 June 2026.
At the time of reporting, the Sokoto State Police Command said it was still gathering details of the incident and had yet to confirm the exact number of those abducted.
