We are publishing the photograph of the eight civilians who were rescued by operatives of the Katsina State Community Watch Corps following a fierce gun battle with bandits in Malumfashi Local Government Area. The successful rescue operation, which took place on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, came at a heavy price: two C‑Watch officers lost their lives during the firefight.
According to security sources, C‑Watch operatives acted on intelligence about a suspected bandits' hideout where the victims were being held. Upon approaching the enclave, the operatives were met with heavy resistance, triggering a prolonged exchange of gunfire. Several bandits were neutralised during the confrontation, while others fled deeper into the forest, abandoning their captives. The operatives secured the area and successfully evacuated eight hostages.
Tragically, two C‑Watch officers lost their lives while carrying out the rescue mission. Their identities have not yet been officially released pending family notification. The rescued civilians, whose photographs we are publishing, were processed by authorities and handed over to their relatives on the evening of Tuesday, June 9.
The Community Watch Corps, established by the Katsina State Government to complement security forces in combating banditry, has suffered a painful loss. Governor Dikko Radda has yet to issue an official statement, but condolences continue to pour in for the fallen personnel.
We share the photograph of the rescued victims as they reunite with their families, a moment of relief overshadowed by the sacrifice of the two officers who did not return. The eight civilians are now safe. The memory of the fallen will not be forgotten.
