Suspected bandits attacked Gadi village in Gwarjo Ward, Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State on Thursday evening, June 11, 2026, killing a resident identified as Malam Mu'azu and abducting several women, according to community sources. The attackers reportedly fled into a nearby forest with the victims shortly after the assault, leaving the community in a state of mourning and anxiety.
The exact number of women abducted has not yet been confirmed, as residents are still assessing the full impact of the raid. Community members told reporters that the bandits invaded the village around 6:30 p.m., shooting sporadically to create panic before targeting specific homes. The victim, Malam Mu'azu, was a respected member of the community. His body has since been prepared for burial according to Islamic rites.
A local vigilante source said the attackers are believed to have used motorcycles to navigate the rural terrain and escaped through a known bandit route in the area. Security operatives were alerted shortly after the incident, but no arrests have been reported as of Friday morning, June 12. The Katsina State Police Command has yet to issue an official statement on the attack, but sources confirm that a manhunt is ongoing to track the assailants and rescue the abducted women.
The assault marks the latest in a series of deadly attacks in Matazu LGA, a rural area that has experienced repeated bandit incursions in recent months. Residents have repeatedly called for increased security deployment in the region, but the attacks have persisted. The killing of Malam Mu'azu and the abduction of several women have once again raised questions about the effectiveness of security measures in protecting vulnerable rural communities.
As the community of Gadi village mourns the loss of a resident and awaits news of their abducted women, the question on everyone's lips remains: how many more lives must be lost before lasting security is restored in affected communities?
