A Kano magistrate court has ordered the remand of a woman, Yasmin Shehu, following her alleged involvement in the death of her boyfriend. The incident occurred during a domestic dispute that reportedly began over a phone charger and escalated into a deadly confrontation, resulting in a culpable homicide charge.
A Magistrate Court sitting at Nomansland in Kano State ordered that Yasmin Shehu be remanded in a correctional facility pending further proceedings. The defendant was arraigned before Magistrate Court No. 27 by state counsel led by the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Abdulkareem Kabir Maude (SAN). The court registrar, Mohammed Tudun Wada, read and translated the charges to the accused.
According to the prosecution, the incident between the defendant and her boyfriend, identified as Aminu Wali, occurred inside a room. The prosecution alleged that the disagreement began over a phone charger and escalated into a physical confrontation. During the altercation, the deceased reportedly sprayed tear gas on the defendant. However, the accused allegedly seized the canister, sprayed it back at the victim, and subsequently struck him on the head, leading to his death.
The prosecution applied for an adjournment to enable the Ministry of Justice to issue legal advice on the matter. Counsel to the defendant, Barrister Abdurazak Abubakar, requested copies of the court processes and charges filed against his client. Ruling on the applications, the presiding magistrate, Hauwa Abba Musa, granted the requests and ordered that the defendant be remanded in a correctional centre pending further proceedings. The case was adjourned until July 7, 2026, for continuation of hearing.
