EMURE-EKITI, Ekiti State, Nigeria — Agro Marshals and local hunters have arrested a suspected armed robber during a forest operation carried out at approximately 2:00 a.m. on Friday, June 13, 2026, in Emure-Ekiti, following a distress call over a reported robbery incident in the community.

Security sources and residents said the operation was launched after a local trader who deals in bulk fuel raised an alarm that he had been robbed of a motorcycle and a fuel container (keg). Acting on the information, the Agro Marshals reportedly traced the suspect into a nearby bush area where he was found in possession of the stolen items.

According to the security team involved in the operation, the suspect was apprehended at the scene during the overnight raid after a coordinated search of surrounding forest routes commonly used by suspected criminals operating within the area.

During the same operation, the security group said they received another alert indicating the presence of armed individuals within the forest. This led to a confrontation between the operatives and the suspected gang, resulting in a brief exchange of gunfire. One suspect was arrested, while others reportedly escaped into the surrounding bush.

The arrested individual was taken into custody at about 2:00 a.m. and later handed over to officers of the Nigeria Police Force for further investigation and prosecution. His identity was not immediately disclosed by authorities at the time of filing this report.

Security personnel said that during preliminary questioning, the suspect allegedly claimed to have come from Benue State alongside other members of his group. However, this statement has not been independently verified, and police authorities are expected to confirm or clarify the details as investigations continue.

The suspect also reportedly indicated willingness to provide information about other individuals allegedly involved in the criminal network and those who facilitated their entry into the community. Authorities have not confirmed these claims.

The Agro Marshals commended the traditional ruler of Emure-Ekiti for what they described as prompt support and cooperation, which they said contributed to the success of the overnight operation. Community-based security groups in Ekiti State often work alongside formal security agencies in response to rising rural crime, particularly in forested areas where armed robbery and kidnapping suspects are known to operate.

No official statement has yet been released by the Ekiti State Police Command regarding the incident, and details about the fleeing suspects remain under investigation.

The situation in the area is reported to be calm following the operation, though residents say they remain cautious as security efforts continue to track down other members of the suspected gang.
